Frequently asked questions about Seahaven Towers
What is the difference between Seahaven Towers and FreeCell?
Three rules change. In the tableau, a card is placed on the card of the same suit and exactly one rank higher, for example the 9 of hearts on the 10 of hearts. Only a king, or a sequence starting with a king, can occupy an empty column. And the deal places 5 cards in each of the 10 columns, plus 2 cards in the cells.
Can every deal be won?
No. According to Wikipedia (in English), a good player can expect to win more than three quarters of their games. The app does not show whether a deal is winnable: the deals on the Examples page do have verified solutions.
What can be placed in an empty column?
Only a king, alone or followed by its same-suit sequence. Any other card stays in its column or goes into a cell. That is why a king at the base of a column is well placed, while a king buried under other cards is a problem.
How many cards can be moved at once?
A same-suit sequence, with at most (free cells + 1) × 2 to the power of (empty columns) cards. With 2 free cells and no empty columns, that is 3 cards; with 4 free cells, 5. If you place the sequence in an empty column, that column does not count.
What does the game code mean?
The code, for example SH1-C4-AAAAAJ2, identifies a specific deal. C4 indicates the number of cells, and the last 7 characters identify the deal. Paste this code into the app to get exactly the same game on any device.
Can you play with fewer than four free cells?
Yes. The New Game window offers 4, 2, or 1 cells: Easy, Medium, or Hard. On Medium, the 2 cells are already occupied by cards from the deal, so there are no free cells at the start. On Hard, the second card goes onto column 2.
Can you undo a move or take a card back from a foundation?
You can undo: the app keeps the last 100 actions, and undoing also removes the points for the undone move. You can also drag the top card of a foundation to a column or a cell when the rules allow it.
